Robert was Lord of Courcy in Normandy. His son, Richard de Courcy (d. 1098) was a friend and companion of William the Conqueror and fought in the Battle of Hastings (1066); after this battle William gave Richard several lordships in England, including Stokes, Somersetshire - Richard"s son, Robert, was Steward of the Household of King Henry I of England and m. one of the six daughters of Hugh de Grantmesnil (ID4213), Lord High Steward of England. Robert built Chateau Courcy in Falaise, Normandy.
